After Carl was born, his family moved to Harrington, Lincoln, Washington, where his next three siblings were born; then to College Place, Walla Walla, Washington. Here Carl married and settled down and lived the rest of his life.
He married Ruth Irene Ackley on 4 May 1911 in College Place.
Carl and Ruth had six children: (living), Irene, Genevieve, Denton, Carl Jr. and (living).
On 23 September 1918, Carl registered for the World War I draft. His occupation was a farmer, working for Blalock Fruit and Produce Company; his height was short and his build slender; blue eyes; black hair. It was signed by his brother-in-law J. B. Fitch (husband of Carl's sister Dott).
Carl worked as a warehouse manager for a produce packing plant in College Place. He served in various offices at the College Place Presbyterian Church and on the board of directors for a local irrigation organization. On Christmas Eve 1948, he was announced in the newspaper as the winner of a 26-lb turkey from Model Grocery and Market.
